- Commissions -
|
I sometimes do commissions, although my own work keeps me quite busy. If you are planning a commission for a special, time-sensitive occasion, it is best to give me several months lead time. A painting, like an automobile, can be of many different kinds - from the simple and not very expensive, to the elaborate and quite expensive. The cost of a commissioned artwork will be in line with the prices of my other artworks; size, complexity of design, amount of detail and/or design elements, media, deadline, and rights required, are the main factors in determining price. Prices start at about US$ 1000 for an 11" x 17" Pastel-Drawing on archival watercolor paper (like Marian or Padma, with an amorphous, misty background only). An artwork like this will take about one week to complete. At the top end of the scale, prices reach US$ 10,000 for a 48" x 30" Mythic Naturalism style oil painting on canvas (like Born Again or Cathedral of Illusion, with special costumes and a complete background scene). Large paintings of appreciable size and complexity can take 750 hours or more (3 - 4 months) to complete; again, please factor this production time into your planning. Paintings can be tailored to a budget anywhere in between those 2 limits, but please note that the minimum size for the Mythic Naturalism style oil paintings is 24" x 16", which will generally cost about US$ 3,500 - depending upon the price factors listed above. A simple rule to keep in mind when commissioning an artwork: smaller, less-detailed paintings cost less than larger, more-detailed paintings. Simple "waist-up" or "head-and-shoulders" oil portraits (with misty background only) start at about US$ 1000 for an 14" x 11". If you provide a detailed description of the painting you want, I can provide you with an exact quote; alternatively, if you have a predetermined budget in mind, I can tell you how much painting your budget will buy. Prices are always negotiable, but my terms of payment are fixed: I receive one third of the agreed upon price up front, the second third after your approval of a detailed color-sketch of the design (which I will deliver via e-mail), and the final third just prior to delivery of the finished art via FedEx Overnight delivery. Shipping valuable artwork is expensive; FedEx will charge between $100 and $500 to ship a painting (depending upon the size and weight), but they are 100% reliable. A cost-quote from FedEx will be added to the price of all commissions. If you have any questions about commissioning an artwork, please let me know and I will do my best to answer them for you: Jonathon@JonathonArt.com |
